About Umbrella Fire Protection
Umbrella Fire Protection Associations are structures providing overarching coordination and support to FPAs at a local level. The National Veld and Forest Fire Act (101 of 1998) provides for the establishment of such an umbrella structure, but does not assign any specific mandates to them. Instead, the Act provides for the realignment of the mandates by the Minister.
The Northwest Umbrella Fire Protection Association (NWUFPA) was established in 2019 as an umbrella association in terms of the National Veld and Forest Fire Act to facilitate FPA participation in the management of fire and related risks within the Northwest and is governed by an Executive Committee.
